Nationals 2011

This year Nationals were held in Montreal at the Claude Robillard Sports Complex. It was the same pool where the 1976 Olympics were held. It is known for being a fast pool and perhaps that is why this competition drew international attention.

Swimmers from USA, Columbia, Russia, Great Britain and the Dominican Republic joined the Canadians. We had a lot of fun hanging out together on the pool deck, visiting friends from other teams and sizing up the competition. It was so inspirational to be at a pool where Olympians swam! Team spirit and bonding was alive and well. One night we went out together for tapas and enjoyed plate after plate of meats covered in various cheeses: beef cheeks (we still don’t know), duck, filet mignon and gourmet grilled cheese. So decadent!

The Gators were well represented with our flag, deck coats, caps and t-shirts. We had 7 swimmers out of 1113 total at the meet we swam 44 races out of 6535 and our final ranking was 25th out of 128 clubs. We won many medals amongst us, a National record was broken and many personal best times were made by all. We look forward to the upcoming swim season: Provincials in Etobicoke, Nationals in British Columbia and Worlds in Italy.

Let’s go Gators!
